DSC_0001 is the solo project and artist alias of Emiel van ’t Hof, based in Zwolle, the Netherlands. The name has existed since 2022, before the project was public. Early material appeared gradually on YouTube, followed later by the first official release, RIFFx_WAVEfmt.

Since then, DSC_0001 has grown into a broad catalogue of releases. The project is centered on music, but also includes visual work, release-specific context, and other material connected to the catalogue. This website is not separate from the project. It is one of the main places where the work exists in full, beyond what fits on streaming platforms alone.

There is no single fixed genre, sound, or method behind DSC_0001. Releases can differ strongly from each other, and the project often changes direction over time. Some works come closer to recognisable styles or forms than others, but they are not usually made as exercises within those styles. A release tends to begin from a new situation rather than from a fixed template: whatever fits the piece determines where it goes.

The work is self-taught and made by ear. Some pieces are built deliberately, while others begin through experimenting, recording, or reshaping material until something takes form. The result can be structured, rough, quiet, dense, or direct, depending on the piece. Some releases are tightly finished, while others keep more of their original character when that better suits the work. Once released, a piece is treated as finished in that form.

The visual side is also part of DSC_0001, especially through release covers and related artwork, but the music remains at the center of the project. Extra material, such as notes, alternate versions, or additional files, stays separate from the main releases where needed.
