About / Thoughts
Jupiter II is a short release with only two tracks, and it has a slightly different style compared to much of my other music, leaning more toward pop and indie than the rest. The title Jupiter II refers to Jupiter’s second moon, Europa, which is also known as Jupiter II. With this release, a recurring line in my discography and my personal interest in space began, something I was mainly interested in earlier in life as a child, although the whole idea of Europa and space functions only as a metaphor here.
The synths in “the world flies around my head” and “exiting europa’s orbit” were largely made using VCV Rack 2 Pro. The click-like percussion in “the world flies around my head” consists of samples I recorded at my workplace at the time, mainly from a staple gun, a nail gun, and a few other tools. The guitar part was originally recorded for another track that I never finished, and I later reused that guitar recording for this track. The vocals heard in the song were originally just placeholders, but I never re-recorded them because I felt they fit well.
“Exiting europa’s orbit” is still one of my favorite tracks I have ever made. The release was originally meant to include an intro track, but I eventually scrapped it. That track was later used as a short intro in a track on the release Out of Phase, specifically the track “out of control.”
I have since released another master, Jupiter II+ (or Jupiter II (alt master 2025) depending on where you listen). On this master, the tracks have new intros, outros, and intermezzo sections, and the tracks are mastered more cleanly. For this type of remaster, I always keep the original version as well, partly because I also see some charm in a rougher mix, so listeners can choose between them.
Below you can find some alternative covers I considered, as well as the scrapped intro track.
