About / Thoughts

CDwn is one of my first releases and still one of my favorites. I made the entire EP in one evening using some quick patches in VCV Rack 2 Pro and a keyboard. I think I recorded all of the tracks a few times, but I chose to just use the first takes without modifying them any further.

I do have to acknowledge that it is a fairly strange EP, and I can easily imagine that it is not for everyone. On this release it is more about texture than tonality, I think. I have always liked noise myself (especially the sound of feedback, like in the track “guilty”).

I recently released an alternative master of the EP under the name “CDwn+” (or “CDwn (alt master 2026)”, depending on where you listen to it). This version uses the same recordings, but with a slightly cleaner master , though honestly it is not radically different. It does include two additional tracks that I recorded on that same evening but did not originally include on CDwn, namely “move” and “channel”.

You can find that version here: CDwn+.

"I was somewhere that looked like France, with _, _, and other people. At some point a plastic bag was found with a dead lamb inside. Everyone blamed me, even though I had nothing to do with it. Instead of saying so, I chose to act as if I had done it. I said I’d put it out of its misery. I felt intensely guilty, even though I hadn’t done it."
