About / Thoughts
Downers is an EP that, together with Uppers, forms a two-part work, although they vary quite a bit in style. Both are different tracks from a certain period compiled into one work, first Downers and then Uppers, hence the different styles mixed together.
This album has clear jazz and fusion influences alongside more experimental and even pop influences. Originally, besides Uppers and Downers there were also going to be two other EPs, namely “Hallucinogens” and “Deliriants”. Hallucinogens would have a purple cover with a dragonfly, and Deliriants would have a green cover with a bee on it.
At the time I did start these two EPs, but I decided to release Uppers and Downers first. After that I never really continued working on Hallucinogens and Deliriants, but who knows what the future brings.
The cover of Downers is a heavily edited photo I took of a spider that caught a wasp. Below you will find these original photos, alternative covers I considered for Downers. There are also some early/alternative versions of the tracks “7/8 groove” and “Braindead”.
