About / Thoughts
I made this release in about two weeks. Originally, King of two worlds and Collapse All Branches were planned as one release, but the later tracks were not finished yet and I decided to release this EP first.
The first track, KING DE-AMPHETAMINE, is mainly about rhythm and texture, built from complex drum synth work in VCV Rack 2. Split between these worlds leans more toward classic IDM, while Rebound paradox is a more melancholic downtempo closer.
The whole EP was made without samples. Everything came from custom VCV Rack 2 Pro patches, mostly sequenced inside VCV rather than MIDI. Only some reverse and time-stretch-like parts were bounced and edited as audio. I built the patches at 12 kHz because they became very large, then rendered at higher sample rates.
I released this as a cassette transfer because the final track sounded great on an old Type I tape, and I wanted all three tracks to share the same presentation. In hindsight, the fast IDM detail loses some definition on tape, so I plan to release a fully digital version later.
Even though this was made in VCV, it avoids the typical modular/generative sound and feel.
