About / Thoughts
Sleeper II follows the same base idea as the rest of the Sleeper series: record one live take, finish it that day, and leave it as it is without editing or rebuilding it later.
This one was made in VCV Rack 2 Pro and mostly revolves around feedback that stays just under control. The patch is a fairly complex feedback chain where small moves can change the whole direction, so the track is mainly about balancing that edge in real time.
During recording, I controlled filter frequencies live over MIDI, and I used MIDI controllers to set how much feedback returned at specific points in the chain. I did that with 9 MIDI encoders.
I also really like the texture in this track. To me it sounds like large machines moving against each other.
I personally had a lot of fun making this one. It felt direct and unpredictable in the right way.
