About / Thoughts

Seventeen/Thirtyone is a short release containing two microtonal tracks. Both pieces were finished in 2024, but they weren’t released until 2025.

They were originally made for what would later become Nuke In Transit. At that point it was just a growing project. These two tracks stood out because they were the only microtonal pieces, and the tuning isn’t subtle. It’s clearly not 12-EDO. Even though it doesn’t sound dissonant, it has a very distinct color. Because of that, they didn’t sit naturally next to the rest of the material, so I decided to separate them and release them on their own.

Both tracks are relatively warm in character, but they aren’t passive. “Seventeen” especially has a slightly strange edge to it. It’s dense and fairly intense at times, without relying on harshness.

“Seventeen” is written in 17-EDO, and “Thirtyone” uses 31-EDO. They were the first finished tracks from the early phase of what became Nuke In Transit, even though they ultimately ended up outside of it.

There isn’t a larger concept behind presenting them separately. It simply felt more appropriate this way.
